Enhancing outward mobility for disadvantaged learners: Guidance from Ireland and the UK

14.00 - 17.00, Tuesday 12 December 2017
Thon Hotel EU, Brussels

Universities UK International (UUKi) and the Irish Universities Association (IUA) invite you to the launch of their toolkits for increasing participation in outward mobility for students from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Across the European Higher Education Area (EHEA), governments and higher education institutions are striving towards a collective ambition of 20% of graduates in the EHEA to have undertaken a study or training period abroad by 2020. To meet this goal, many countries have already begun to shift their focus from the numbers of students participating in mobility to the accessibility of these opportunities, exploring who participates and how students from underrepresented groups can be supported.

The UUKi and IUA toolkits will support institutions across Europe to increase participation in outward mobility. These toolkits are the final output of two large scale projects funded through the Key Action 3 strand of the European Union’s Erasmus+ Programme, which provides support for the implementation of European Higher Education Area (EHEA) reforms. The toolkits have a particular focus on access for disadvantaged learners, and include guidance, advice, tips and recommendations for funding, marketing and student support.

Who should attend?

  • PVC International
  • Directors of International Offices
  • Outward Mobility Practitioners
  • Widening Participation Practitioners

We will present both the UK and Irish toolkits, learn from expert practitioners about how they have addressed the opportunities and challenges of widening participation in outward student mobility, and hear from students who have worked, studied or volunteered abroad during their studies, and conclude with a networking reception.
