About the Widening Participation in Student Mobility Programmes Workshop
The conference brought together International and Widening Participation Office staff from across the UK to discuss approaches to increasing the proportion of students from low socioeconomic backgrounds accessing international experiences during their studies. The day-long event included a number of interactive sessions which encouraged attendees to think about good practice looks like and and discuss what more can be done in their respective contexts and at national level. We were delighted to welcome Professor Les Ebdon, Director of the Office for Fair Access (OFFA) and Bill Rammell, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Bedfordshire as our principal speakers who helped set the scene and gave their insights into the value of study abroad, the challenges in increasing student mobility at institutional level and how different offices within institutions should collaborate to increase the number of students from low socioeconomic backgrounds going abroad.
